June 19, 2007 | Economy Ministry Keeps GDP Growth Forecast At 6.5% In 2007 Despite Problems In Agricultural Sector
The Economy Ministry has preserved its GDP growth forecast for 2007 despite the situation in the field of agriculture following the drought.
Economy Minister Anatolii Kinakh disclosed this to journalists.
According to him, despite expected relatively poor harvest, the planned dynamics of GDP growth may be reached due to essential growth in engineering, as well as export-oriented industries.
"As a result, this may offset the negative situation in the agrarian sector...We need to find a possibility to balance these losses," he said.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, in late May and early June, the price of bread and bakery products grew in several regions.
Premier Viktor Yanukovych threatened to dismiss Vice Premier Viktor Slauta and Agricultural Policy Minister Yurii Melnyk in case they fail to regulate situation on the bread market of Ukraine before mid-June.
